Monsters On My Mind

October is finally here and it's going to be an awesome month of fun and prizes here at my blog!

Please welcome fabulous guest author Cynthia Eden for the kickoff of Monster Mash-Up! She writes about the kind of 'monsters' I'd never kick out of bed and I'm thrilled to have her here! If you haven't read her stuff, you're totally missing out! She writes some sexy sexy heroes! So, without further ado, here she is!

Hi, everyone! A big thanks to Katie for inviting me over for some Monster Mash fun!

Oh, monsters, how I do love them. Long before I ever wrote a paranormal romance with my own monster hero, I was already addicted to vampires, shifters, and all those delicious guys that go bump in the night.

Does anyone remember the old Dark Shadows show? I sighed over the vampire lead, Barnabas Collins (I’ve heard Johnny Depp may play that character in a re-make—oh, I hope that rumor is true!). I hunted monsters with Mulder on The X-Files. I believed the truth was out there, and I couldn’t wait to find it. And when Buffy realized that she loved a bit of monster in man, I was right there, agreeing with her. After all, a man with the right touch of monster is pretty awesome.

And now? Well, now I’m chasing all kinds of monsters with the Winchester brothers (oh, Supernatural, how I love you). With all these monster shows, is it any wonder that I’ve got monsters on my mind?

Halloween puts me even more in the monster spirit. It makes me want to watch all my favorite monster shows, again and again (like more Dean Winchester is a bad thing), and it makes me want to read paranormal romances so I can get my fix on supernatural heroes. Just because a guy is a monster, well, that doesn’t mean he can’t save the day.

Monsters can make most excellent heroes.

I’ve enjoyed creating some monster heroes in my own stories. Guys who skirt that fine line between good and evil. Guys who can get vicious in a fight. Guys who may just transform into a beast if the need arises.

For my next paranormal release, I focused on a supernatural being that I hadn’t explored before. I wanted someone dark. Some dangerous. Someone…like a Fallen Angel. ANGEL OF DARKNESS will introduce readers to my Fallen heroes. Angels who can kill with a touch and seduce with a look. Temptation has never been more fun. (It’s temptation, monster style!)

Want to win an early copy of ANGEL OF DARKNESS? Then tell me about a monster that you love. It can be a character from a book, from a TV show—anything. Share! One commenter will be randomly picked to win the prize.

Thanks for checking out my post!

I love many monsters but my favorite at the moment is Vishous from JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series. As much as I've loved the other monsters no one has outdone him. Although I too am very much looking forward to seeing Johnny Depp play Barnabas :)

Hmmm ... I do not have any recent monster love that I can recall. Does a shark shifter count because I want my own Max from Jodi Redford's Maximum Witch! But alas, we do not have cable currently. *sighs* I wouldn't have time to watch anything anyway because I always have my head in a book. The newer-older-ish love goes to Spike and Angel (Buffy & Angel). And my younger years were spent loving Vincet (Ron Pearlman - Beauty & the Beast).

Thanks for the giveaway and congratulations on the upcoming release!

I would have to say my favorite monster hands down is Michael in the Underworld movies (part vamp/part lycan/COMPLETELY HOT)!!! And it may make me sound a little odd but I didn't think Selene was bad either (guys can have bromances, women can have chick crushes too)! Gary Oldman was an awesome Dracula and one that most people would not think of as falling under the "monster" category is Stuart Townsend as Dorian Gray in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (he also played the vampire Lestat far more impressively than Cruise ever did)!

Welcome to my blog Cynthia! A couple of my fave fictional monsters are Angel from Buffy (and Angel) and of course Eric from True Blood. Both two tall sexy vamps. Yum! :)

donnas said...

Oh Eric totally. I loved his character in the books and seeing him in the TV show did nothing to change that.

For classics though of course there is Dracula. And I really always felt sorry for Frankensteins monster. He didnt ask to be that way.

One of my favorite "monsters" is your Niol. If I went went the standard monsters I'd pick Frankenstein's monster. I always felt sorry for him.

Hi, Katie!! Thanks so much for having me over today! And congrats on your new release!

Gail, I definitely think a guy can be scary & sexy! It's a fun combo! :) And thanks for asking about my books. If you want to read some of the stories I already have out, you may want to start with Eternal Hunter (it's the 1st book in my Night Watch series). Then, on 11/29/11, I'll be launching a brand new series with the release of my first Fallen book, ANGEL OF DARKNESS.

LOL, another team Bill, huh, dpbussie? I'll have to confess, I'm team Alcide.

Cynthia Eden said...

Wow, kendra, I didn't know there was a shark shifter! I'm gonna have to check out Maximum Witch.

LadyRed, I'm a huge fan of Michael's, too! I know they are making a new Underworld, and I hope he is in it!

Katie, I like your tall, sexy vamps! (And thanks again for having me over!)

Hello Cythina! :D

I just love Niol Lapen from Midjnight Master :D He is just so awesome and amazing that he has a dark side to him but when he is around Holly he becomes all soft and kind-ish. Niol is so hot, sexy and loveable. I think I have read that book 20 times, it never fails to make me laugh.

I hope what I have written is all right :)

May, those are two fabulous guys!

As a teenager I was all about Spike from Buffy. Didn't matter if he was being bad or good, he was awesome. Now I've got to give it to Eric Northman. He was my favorite when I started reading the Sookie Stackhouse books years ago, and I think he's great on True Blood.

Angie said...

As a fellow lover of all tings Dean Winchester, I'm more focused on Monster hunter than Monster, but I have to go back to my teenage years and say Jason Patric's character Michael from The Lost Boys always did something crazy to me. Eric from True Blood is also tops on my list at the moment!
